With two theme parks, Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, plus a water park, Volcano Bay, the immersion of experience at Universal Studios is unparalleled.
Each park has distinct themed sections and once inside, it’s as if you’ve entered that universe, land, or books.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is one of the most extraordinary places I’ve ever visited and if you are a fan of the books, movies or both, you MUST go! It feels like you are truly in their world. The details in the shops are remarkable. The treats are delicious. Butterbeer anyone? You must get an interactive wand while there and explore to cast “spells”. It really is magical! You will need a park to park ticket to ride the Hogsmeade Express back and forth.
For the thrill seekers there is the brand new Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure (IOA), as well as the Incredible Hulk Coaster (IOA), Revenge of the Mummy (US) and Jurassic Park River Adventure (IOA). Not necessarily my cup of tea (though I have been brave enough to try them once!) but if you love to be terrified, these are for you.
And if you’re in the sweet spot for attractions (like me!), Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (IOA), Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts (US), The Simpsons Ride (US), Race Through New York with Jimmy Fallon (US), Despicable Me Minions Mayhem (US), Hogwarts Express (US & IOA), The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man (IOA), Skull Island: Reign of Kong (IOA), E.T. Adventure (US).
Every ride will give you just the right amount of excitement, small drops, and getting lost in the story.
On the flip side, my little one loved Seuss Landing (IOA) and Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone (US). Plus Universal has a great rider swap system, most in a separate, air-conditioned rooms with a TV. While in rider swap, ask a team member for a Height Certificate. Unique to each ride, this will allow your little one to return when they are tall enough, bring 5 family members, and go to the front of the line.
CityWalk is the area that connects the two theme parks, the new waterpark Volcano Bay, with the resort hotels and does not require park admission. This area is open past the park closing times so you can continue the fun with a late dinner, some entertainment or shopping!
Clients should plan a 3-5 day stay (preferably at a Premier resort if you can swing it – includes Universal Express Unlimited!).
- Day 1: Islands of Adventure (Even though US was the first park, I always suggest visiting IOA first since that was the first WWoHP.) Ride the Hogwarts Express to US and back, complete that park.
- Day 2: Universal Studios
- Day 3+: Repeat what you loved in each
Bonus:
Work with a travel agent, one who knows the ins and outs of each park and can help you maximize your time. Even if you are purchasing tickets only, a travel agent can get you in 1 hour early to the WWoHP.
And now if you will excuse me, I’m off to plan my next trip!
