I know how easy it can be to let your workout routine fall to the wayside while on vacation, but Disney is a great place to keep it up!  Finding time to exercise can be tough, but working it into your day can make all the difference.

I’m someone who needs to run everyday, first thing in the morning.  Yes, I understand you walk all day at Disney, but to me it’s not about the exercise, it’s about MY time – ME, MYSELF and I.  My kids are not part of the equation, I’m not taking the baby in the jogging stroller, I’m not trying to get in some special time with my 7 year old.

I’m putting on my iPod and going ALONE.  The one exception is if my in-laws are up for watching the kids it’s a great opportunity for my husband and I to do something together on the trip.

For the rest of the day I can do whatever everyone else wants, because I’ve cleared my head and did ONE THING for myself.  I don’t run far, just a mile or two, but that’s all I need.  If you’re not a runner, get out there and walk.  Every hotel has a walking/running path, just ask at the front desk.  Many will give you a map to show you where to go.

If you’re staying by the Boardwalk, the distance around the lake is 1.4 miles.  If you’re at the Animal Kingdom the distance between the Jambo House and Kidani Village is a half mile.  If you are at the Contemporary you can run to the Magic Kingdom and back for a quick hitter.

Some hotels offer gyms if you don’t want to forego your weightlifting workout.  Other hotels don’t offer a gym, but you may use the facilities at another hotel nearby; for example guests staying at the Polynesian can use the gym at the Grand Floridian.

Keeping with a routine can “work out” if you are diligent and creative.  Also, it helps to counterbalance all the wonderful things to eat and drink while on vacation!  And honestly, while this post was about exercise, sometimes just being alone for a little while every day is enough to keep your sanity.

If sitting on a bench and reading alone for 20 minutes is enough to recharge your batteries, don’t give that up on vacation!  You will be more happy, more present, and have more patience throughout the trip!
