One of my biggest pieces of advice, especially if you have more than two children, is to go with people who will help out on the trip.  Grandparents, aunts, uncles, older cousins, basically anyone who can be trusted and will have a good time helping watch your kids.  At young ages, two kids at Disney are more manageable than three or more.  TRUST ME on this.

We have been to Disney multiple times over the years and have always traveled with my in-laws.  I have awesome in-laws; they love my kids more than anything and they love to experience vacation with them.  For the purposes of this post I’m going to use the Grandparents example since we vacation with them every trip.

One of the biggest benefits of going with my in-laws is not only the overall help they give, but that at the end of the day we can tag team dinners.  This is huge for me.  We will make a 5:30pm reservation for my in-laws for dinner, while we finish up at the pool with the kids, feed them dinner and get them ready for bed.  By 7:00 my in-laws are back and we can go out to eat by ourselves.

I find that I don’t need a ton of time away from my kids to recharge. One dinner out with a glass of wine and I’m ready for the next day of fun. But spending all day with the group, then having to take care of them at dinner is too much togetherness for me; I need my adult time!

If you cannot bring help, use the babysitting rooms!  There are a few kids’ clubs scattered throughout the various hotels and they are well worth the money if you want a few hours to yourselves.

We might go to Disney for the kids, but the vacation is for everyone in the family.  Taking a little time for ourselves and to regroup benefits us, and the kids, because we are more patient and don’t feel like we’re dragging ourselves around only for their benefit.
